Model Marinde Hendriks joined our session at the 2020 fotofair. Recognizable a woman with modeling experience, she knew what to do at the right time with a minimum of corrections and tips.
At this specific shoot, she breathed a classy style combined with her classic appearance, very nice indeed.
No photoshop, only a little crop. Again, no photoshop, just Marinde au Naturelle and the light.
Caught unexpecetedly
Taken with a very low aperture, the background does show the water, but the shot could almost represent a High Key photo.

Steampunk warrior woman Fairyina
The other day I went out to a photo event called fotofair. Besides the normal marketing and sales pitches from various brands, there are some very interesting models that wander around the premisses. The Steampunk warrior woman Fairyina was one of them.
In fact, fairyina is by far the most fierce and steampunk representation of the warrior woman!
Standing or riding the futuristic wheels, she is absolutely representing Girl power with a capital G!
Sometimes you need to show your power by using other tools, in this case, a leather whip. In combination with her steampunk clothing, she looked fierce!
When I finally got myself together and was ready to ask her a question, her colleague entered the scene. Damn..now I had to wait when the pilot with the gun left the premises.
Can I remind you, he had a gun!

Zwolle in Black and White
Zwolle in Black and White starts at the Pelserbrugje, a bridge that represents an old bridge from 1686. This bridge is built in 1974 and connects the Thorbeckegracht with the city center.
Zwolle has a lot of small alley’s and old buildings from the 17 and 18th century.
During the Covid-19; Corona crisis we all supported our caretakers!
Waanders in de Broeren is a bookstore housed in a former church. The church dates back to the 15th century and is absolutely beautiful. The light coming through the windows is stunning on a sunny day.
The ceiling of the former church is absolutely gorgeous. As seen in the Den Bosch in Black and White photoshoot as well I have a thing for ceilings.
Even the organ was still in working condition and mint shape.
An old storefront dating back to the 1950’s with a curved window. Very nice reflection in the window as well!

The light in the cloister was amazing. The lady enjoyed some sun and beautiful Vermeer light as well.
Museum De Fundatie is a museum for the visual arts.
The roof of Museum De Fundatie is absolutely stunning, reflecting tiles in silver color and a golden bird.
Saint John’s Cathedral in black and white
Saint John’s Cathedral in black and white.
The Roman Catholic Cathedral Church of St. John is spectacular from the inside. In my opinion, the outside is a restored version of what? I don’t know, and leave it up to you.
The organ is simply huge and is centered alongside the entrance of the church. Construction started at approx. 1618.
The book was open on page 193, the Sabbato song. And again, the light was gorgeous.
Candles in a church are always magical.
The light was heavenly beautiful.
Taking photographs of Saint John’s Cathedral in black and white was a moment of peace. People are talking in silent mode to each other while visiting a church.
Dusseldorf in Black and White
Dusseldorf in Black and White is absolutely gorgeous. Starting at the MedienHafen (Media Harbor) district on a very cloudy morning. Which gives the Black and White photos more contrast.
You can spot this building in the old harbor, again in the Media Harbour (MedienHafen) district.
Walking via the old harbor to the old city town – Altstadt, you will pass these fantastic building. The appear to be dancing.
Build out of aluminum and glass this well-curved building is showing it’s graceful structure.
Something old, something new like the phrase says, Dusseldorf is a great city to photograph old and new style architecture.

The 240 meters high Rhine Tower is a telecommunications tower in Dusseldorf.

Cologne in black and white
My mission today, capture Cologne in black and white images, what else.
Starting with the great cathedral, called the Dom, in Cologne. It’s absolutely amazing how big this building is. Its sheer size is astonishing.
Next stop, the Cologne central station. Also know as Köln Hauptbahnhof. Perfect to take black and white shots because of the strong contrast on this particular day.
I do like reflection or see trough shots a lot, it’s mysterious and you have to think twice while looking at such a picture.
There is a lot of love in Cologne, take a look at this! This is just a few feet on the very long Hohenzollern Bridge.
Alongside the river Rhein, you can take awesome shots of the river and the newly developed Rheinauhafen. This former harbor is rebuilt with some of the city’s most spectacular architecture.
My personal favorite of the day, in the midst of Rheinauhafen, alongside the river Rhein.
Lot’s of art as well.
And….a lot of people getting married at the Cologne City Hall, or Rathaus.
This particular bride is awaiting, well, I don’t know to be honest.

The big Ferris wheel alongside the river Rhein gives you a glimpse of the city.

This took my breath away, this lady carried everything she has in life on a trolley. Amazing….
Riviera Plants Company Le Muy – Glasshouse graffiti
On holiday in southern France, I spotted this Urbex location. A large number of glasshouses from a company called Riviera Plants Company Le Muy.
From the roadside, you can only see the glasshouse graffiti under a thick layer of ink.
This urbex location is easily accessible since it’s located next to the main road to Le Muy, and there are no security measures (August 2020). A lot of damage has been done to the glasshouse windows. Very carefully tried to enter the premises.
Very big utilities building, how ever, not accessible.
The office building was accessible! Looked like if the offices were abandoned in a rush. A lot of books, papers, and administrative stuff was still on the desks and in cupboards.
Notice the Registre Des Entrees & sorties du personnel. Strange to see these very, very person identifiable notes in a register for onboarding and exit personnel which is just wondering around an empty place. Not GDPR compliant;-).
At the General Manager’s office the keys and most favorite picture is still on the desk.
Overlooking the mountains of Le Muy and Vidauban in the beautiful region of the Provence. The company originated in the 1970’s, hence the old movie tape in beautiful iron cans.

Urbex abandoned factory Nordrhein westfalen – Urbex locations in Germany
Urbex photography, I love it. It’s difficult to find a real Urbex location. Today I got lucky. Originally I went for a trip to Landesschaftpark Duisburg-Nord, which is one of the Urbex locations in Germany along the Rhein route. On my route to Duisburg I did stumble upon this gorgeous abandoned factory in the region Nordrhein Westfalen.
The factory was left abandoned a while ago, the door was closed but unlocked. Meaning, I could enter the facility.
The beautiful round stairs where really decaying fast because of the water poring into the building.
The detail is truly magnificent, valves, pipes and meters, all still there.
The flooring was completely destroyed and the tanks where in the same shape. Buy hey, that is what we want on a location like this.
Surprise, even half a car was on stock.
Even more pipes, as time has done it’s work and always will do.
The hinge will remain there forever. This location came by accident since I was traveling to a whole different location in Nordrhein Westfalen. If they come to you as a surprise, you deserved them.

Art in a different language
Art can come to you in many different styles, capacity and understanding. We all see and understand it differently, which is a good thing. The freedom of looking and interpreting is a universal thing.
In this specific image, taken in Saint-Tropez, I see a posible ancient language, long gone and no one left that understands it. That is the beauty of imagination, it can be what ever you want, everything you make of it is your truth, within your world and your context.
